Keratosis pilaris is a common, harmless skin condition what affects nearly 50% of world’s population. It causes dry, small bumps on your skin (looks like goose bumps). It mainly occurs on your thighs or upper arms.
Keratosis pilaris is caused by the build up of keratin — a hard protein that protects skin from harmful substances and infection. The keratin forms a scaly plug that blocks the opening of the hair follicle. Keratosis Pilaris occurs more likely during dry, cold winter months.
There are 3 main steps to follow when you are trying to get rid of Keratosis pilaris. Make sure to:
Exfoliate– regular exfoliation helps to get rid of dead skin cells, stimulate blood flow and smooth your skin.
Hydrate– keep your skin hydrated at all times. If you have dry skin you are more likely to have Keratosis Pilaris.
Avoid harsh chemicals. Avoid ingredients like sodium lauryl sulphate, petroleum, artificial fragrance, mineral oil and parabens in products you use. Make sure to check labels of products or simply just trust ILUS and products we offer!
So what to use?
Coconut oil is one of the best natural treatments for Keratosis pilaris. Coconut oil is rich in Lauric acid what helps in breaking up the build up of keratin. In addition, the oil is rich in both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil is also an extremely efficient as a moisturizer.
Body scrub. Exfoliating is a big part of curing Keratosis Pilaris. Make sure to exfoliate regularly and moisturize your skin after that. We recommend coffee & brown sugar body scrub since it exfoliates gently, yet effectively. Coffee scrub removes dead cells, stimulates blood flow and smoothes your skin.
Body Lotion. If you are not a fan of body oils you should try coconut body lotion. Reniu body lotion is made with cold-pressed Virgin Coconut Oil. It is extremely nourishing and smells absolutely amazing! JOIK velvety body lotion with coconut milk and shea butter is super-moisturizing relieving dry, itchy skin.
